Reverse Engineering Capabilities and
Experience
The Axis-IT&T reverse engineering team has executed several
reverse engineering projects for plastics, sheet metal and soft
foam components.
A few reverse engineering projects delivered by Axis-IT&T
are:
Dashboard of a tractor
The dashboard of a tractor was scanned by a white light scanner,
using multiple exposures. Point cloud data, was aligned using
the IMAlign software. The CAD model was then created using
the Surfacer software.
Fenders of a car
A white light scanner was used to capture the point cloud data
for the fenders of a car. Accuracy of the component; dimensional
accuracy of the fenders were checked by overlaying the CAD model
created by reverse engineering on the original CAD data of the
component. Modeling was done using the Surfacer software.
Impeller of a radiator cooling fan
Axis-IT&T engineers converted the sheet metal impeller of
a radiator cooling fan to plastic. Surface data of the sheet metal
impeller was captured using a white light scanner creating the
CAD model. Fine-tuning was done on the reverse engineered CAD
model to design the plastic impeller that would give the same
results as the original sheet metal impeller.
Tail light assembly for a two-wheeler

TAIL LIGHT |
Complete tail light assembly was required for the new model of
a two wheeler. Reverse engineering of a similar assembly was done
to create the CAD model. The surface data of the component was
captured using a CMM and the modeling was done in Pro/ENGINEER.
All the components of the assembly were modeled separately and
then modified as per the client's requirement. The modified components
were then assembled and checked for fitment and interferences.
Fuel Pump casing
CAD models of the lower die and upper die for casing of a pump
were created. The component given by the client was damaged and
had numerous pit marks. Axis -IT&T had to repair the surface
of the components during the reverse engineering process.

CAD MODEL |
Axis - IT&T received a soft foam component as the input to
be scanned and modeled. The point cloud data was captured using
a white light scanner and the model was created using the Surfacer
software.
