FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS
Finite element analysis (FEA) is the application of the finite
element method (FEM) used for static or dynamic analysis of physical
objects and systems. The object or system is represented by a
geometric model consisting of multiple, linked and simplified
representations of discrete 'cells' or 'regions' called finite
elements - this process is known as meshing. The whole process
is a computer aided engineering methodology used to develop the
best designs while minimizing costs and time.
In many disciplines virtual prototyping, using numerical simulation
tools based on finite element methods, has replaced the traditional
'build and test' prototype approach.
FEA helps to:
- Solve real world analysis problems
- Lower costs of designs
- Shorten cycle time
- Optimise solutions
- Lessen the need for prototyping
- Generate more design alternatives and develop innovative products
